Dimittit In Artes takes its title from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, an epic poem concerning the act of creation which was also famously referenced by James Joyce in his experimental novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The film is about Vernon’s work, mortality, and the artistic struggle in general, presented as a discussion between the artist and an immortal spirit.
