I’m following the fate of Herstmonceux Observatory ….

On the FB page there are many exceptional images of the domes, and of the ‘scopes.  I particularly like some of the dome images and, with the permission of the folk who took the pics, have drawn them together – some with my own captions….

I’m  envisaging a calendar – maybe domes interspersed with exceptional ‘scope’  pics?  Maybe cards?  I’d buy some!

One response to “Exceptional Images of Herstmonceux Domes”

  1. It’s such a sad state of affairs that we are looking at the closure of the observatory science centre, but unless someone shows up with loads of money (bucket loads).
Because when Science projects uk sadly leave the observatory they will take everything that is theirs, and this will include the encoders and all of the electronics for the scopes, making them absolutely useless, beautiful, but useless.

As far as I can tell, other than the buildings themselves science projects uk, own everything, so when they go, there won’t even be the disabled ramps to get to and from the lawns, it will be as it was in the beginning, an empty shell, with very beautiful but non functioning telescopes.

There has to be a way to save it, but it will require someone with very deep pockets and a dream, because without both of them, it’s not going to happen.
