We’ve walked at Newark Bay many times

Newark Bay – Life On The Edge Of The Ocean

and thought we’d go to see how the archaeology is faring after the big storms we’ve had in the last year or so.  The answer is, not well.

There’s now a sign asking folk to stay clear of the site

which is entirely understandable as it would be unsafe for the people and potentially damaging to the archaeology.

I took a pic from the path to  show how the site is simply disappearing into the sea

We walked back along the track noticing, as always at Newark,  some interesting  stones on the beach below

We then went to the Dashing Deer restaurant which has opened in conjunction with the Deerness Distillery.  We’d heard that it’s good, so we booked – which is advisable

I look for three things when I go out for a meal  – good food, pleasant surroundings, and friendly people – and the Dashing Deer has all three.

Mike had Pea & Mint soup with chunky bread and a bowl of chips, and I had a Panini Tuna-melt with crips and coleslaw – including beetroot crisps which are gorgeous!

I’ll now post some pics of the décor – which is pleasing, imaginative and interesting – including a map of old ‘Dearness

From the restaurant, through a window,  you can see the stills  – lovely things in themselves – shiny copper

And there’s the shop  – note the  ‘antler‘ coat rack

with a Tasting Station with various Gins, Coffee liqueur and Whisky – oh yes
