The Scottish Parliament has today, 18th October 2024, published an online Book of Condolence following the death of Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland 2007 – 2014.

For all those who can travel to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, a Book of Condolence is in the hall where the public can access it.
Alex Salmond’s body is today being transported by private jet from North Macedonia where it had a guard of honour. The funeral cortege will then travel from Aberdeen airport to Fraserburgh accompanied by the Yes Bikers.

Following the death of former First Minister Rt Hon Alex Salmond, Presiding Officer Rt Hon Alison Johnstone MSP said: “On behalf of The Scottish Parliament, on the sad news of the passing of Rt Hon Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland from 2007 to 2014, my most sincere condolences to his wife Moira, his family and friends at this difficult time”.
A book of condolence has been opened at the Scottish Parliament to allow people to pay their respects. Visitors can leave their messages, which will be sent to Mr Salmond’s family, in a book in the Parliament’s Main Hall.
The Parliament is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4.30pm.
For those who are unable to visit the Parliament building, an online book of condolence is now available. Comments left online will also be collated and sent to Mr Salmond’s family.
Members of the public are also able to leave their condolences via the Scottish Parliament’s switchboard which can be contacted via our free number 0800 092 7500
All messages of condolence will be reviewed by the SPCB before being sent to Mr Salmond’s family. Contributors are asked to avoid adding comments which may be considered offensive, upsetting, or political in nature.
A motion of condolence will be taken in the Chamber after recess. The debate will allow MSPs to pay their tributes to the former First Minister.
