A cloudy start with rain gradually clearing east, followed by scattered showers in the afternoon. Some bright or sunny spells developing across Orkney in the afternoon. Strong westerly winds, soon increasing to gale or severe gale force. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Very windy with northweterly gales, occasionally severe gales across Shetland. Scattered showers turn frequent, occasionally heavy towards midnight, then mostly dying out towards dawn. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday 19th December:

A cold, bright and breezy day with strong northwest winds, gales across Shetland. Good sunny spells and a few well scattered wintry showers. Winds easing in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Rain clearing to blustery showers Friday. Very windy with spells of rain Saturday and Sunday, a risk of storm force winds. Winds gradually easing Sunday.
