A cold day with northwest gale force winds, severe gales at first over Shetland. Sunny spells and blustery showers, turning wintry to increasingly low levels. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Scattered showers dying out through the evening and start of the night as winds ease. Cloud increases overnight with rain spreading east. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Friday 20th December:

Outbreaks of rain, heavy for a time, clears east late morning. Then sunny spells with scattered showers. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A very windy weekend with showers or longer spells of rain. Severe gales, perhaps storm force winds, across Orkney on Saturday. Lighter winds on Monday, dry at first, rain later.
