Today 30th December:

Shetland will be mainly dry, although some light rain or sleet in the morning. Rain across Orkney in the morning before it becomes dry through the afternoon. Light winds but feeling very cold. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

A cloudy start to the night with a few sleety showers. Heavier sleet and snow will move north later in the night accompanied by strengthening winds. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Tuesday 31st December:

An area of sleet or snow will affect Orkney for much of the day, Shetland will see light snow at first but turning heavier during the day, strong easterly winds. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A bitterly cold few days with strong northerly winds and wintry showers, more organised bands of sleet or snow will form at times giving heavier accumulations.
