YELLOW WARNING SNOW

A wet start with some heavy rain or snow initially across Orkney, then over Shetland in the afternoon. Heavy afternoon showers for Orkney probably turning to rain again. Fresh or strong winds making it feel very cold. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Rain and sleet mostly turning showery through the evening but a bit more persistent for Orkney at first. Showers turn to snow by dawn with fresh winds turning northerly. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Wednesday 1st January:

A very cold start to the New Year with fresh or strong northerly winds and snow showers, snow starting to lie to low levels. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

The cold spell continuing for the first few days of January, strong northerly winds and frequent wintry showers. Winds becoming lighter on Saturday.
