Traditional Orcadian names with Norse links are proving less popular with Orkney’s new parents as the top names chosen with births registered in islands show a decrease to 146 from 162 in 2023.

For Boys the most popular names were: Harry, Charlie, Ernie, Finn, Fraser, Finlay, Harris, Noah, Ollie, Ruben, and Ronnie.

For Girls the most popular names were: Una, Zara,  Alba, and Ella.

In 2023 Archie and Finn were the top choices for Boys’ names in Orkney, and for Girls,  Aria, Ara, Hallie, Lara, Lily, and Maisy.

In 2024 there were more boys (82) than girls (64) born.
