We recently watched a recorded episode of ‘Digging For Britain’  which featured the discovery near Woodbridge,  Suffolk, of a Neolithic monument which shows the exceptional level of engineering expertise of the Neolithic people https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-44455266

They put much time, thought and effort into constructing a circular feature around which water flowed in a ditch, with a wooden walk-way above it which folk could walk on, and deposit items in the water.   They also raised a mound in the middle – picture it.

This feature was used for centuries, then the mound was levelled and the site forgotten.

I see comparisons with the Ness of Brodgar – a lot of time and effort constructing, then in use for a long-time, then filled in and forgotten until it was discovered 20 years ago – hopefully not to be forgotten again…..

The Ness Sleeps

The Ness sleeps

Under earth

Under sky

Between Lochs

___________

Grass will come

Flowers will come

To form a blanket

Keeping it safe.

_____________

Knowing folk will come

To break its slumber

What might they

Uncover?
