Miriam Landor is a descendant of Holocaust victims and survivors. In her new memoir Stumbling Stones: the Holocaust, my family and me she looks back over the eighty years since VE day, and reflects on the long-lasting impact of the Nazi era on the second generation.
Miriam will be signing copies of her book, ‘Stumbling Stones: the Holocaust my family and me’ on Saturday 17 May 12 till 2pm at The Orcadian Bookshop, Kirkwall.
Dr. Matthias Weniger, Curator and Head of Provenance Research, National Museum of Bavaria, Munich said:
Today we are living again in an era in which racial hatred, blatant force and violence seem to get the upper hand over compassion, affection and righteousness. And in which many people, not just in Germany, think enough has been said about the Holocaust, and we should just turn the page and move on. This book shows that it is worth fighting against the oblivion, and that the wounds are open still, more so than ever.
Miriam Landor has spent most of her adult life in Orkney, but she grew up travelling the world with her German Jewish father and English mother. Miriam worked in education as a teacher, lecturer and psychologist, and is married with three adult children. Having previously published professional and academic work, she is now turning to memoir to reflect on her family’s history.
