SSEN Transmission has supported the three Scottish teams which are taking part in the Island Games 2025: Orkney, Shetland and  Na h-Eileanan an Iar.

It is the only firm to sponsor almost 500 athletes which make up all three Scottish Island Authority teams at this year’s games, taking place from 12 to 18 July.

Ross Donaldson, Team Manager for Team Orkney 2025, said:

“Anticipation is building here for the arrival of the Island Games, which promises to be an exciting moment for Orkney and especially for our Team Orkney athletes who have been training hard in preparation.

“We’re delighted that SSEN Transmission is sponsoring the team and grateful for its support that is helping us take part in this year’s competition. We know the company has also made efforts to reduce the number of staff working in Orkney during Island Games week to free up travel and accommodation space, which underlines its commitment towards supporting the wider event.

“As the host island it’s an especially proud moment for all of us involved in Team Orkney, and we look forward to welcoming our fellow competitors from across the world while aiming for success on home soil.”

Jeni Herbert, Community Liaison Manager at SSEN Transmission, said:

“SSEN Transmission is proud to support Team Orkney as it prepares to host and compete in this year’s Island Games.

“To ease pressure on accommodation during the Games, we’ve helped ensure that 32 visiting athletes have a place to stay by vacating and covering the cost of accommodation that had been used by our contractors.

“This gesture underlines our commitment to being a good neighbour in the communities where our projects are based, and contributing where we can to the success of this year’s Games.

“We wish all the athletes competing in Orkney 2025 the very best of luck, and look forward to what is sure to be a memorable week for all involved.”

SSEN Transmission is also providing equipment, travel, and logistical assistance for over 200 athletes and officials at this year’s games.
