Whilst the International Island Games is demonstrating the best in the sportsmen and women from the participating 24 island groups, the venues themselves are shining a light on the workers in Orkney who maintain them.

One of the most visible and beautiful examples can be found in the skills of the gardening at the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall.

The landscaping is impressive all year round, but for this the 20th International Island Games, the green fingered skills of the team at Ewan MacKenzie have excelled themselves.

Thank you to Christie Grahame for providing us with images of a few of the floral tubs and planters which are in full bloom just now.
