“The Welcome Day is to celebrate our first season under community ownership, and to say thank you to our community for their ongoing support of this endeavour.

“We can’t wait to show you the changes in the visitor centre, and we hope you will enjoy our local businesses who will be here on the day. “

On offer will be :

  • hands-on archaeology
  • a guided tour of the site by Professor Colin Richards
  • pop-up shops featuring local crafts
  • kids activities
  • catering by Brough Bakes

Steve Sankey, Lead Director for the SRBDT for the Tomb of the Eagles added:

“We’re delighted to have acquired the Tomb for the community, but the site hasn’t been open fully since 2019 and so we’re on a bit of a voyage of discovery.

“We’ve appointed three excellent members of staff, led by Cat, and our team of volunteers has been immense.

“This Welcome Day is a special opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to our funders and the community, so we’ll look forward to seeing everyone happy to be
on site again.”

The Welcome Day, Sunday 31 May, will be from 10am – 5pm with last admissions at 3.30pm. Upon arrival, please visit the admissions desk inside the visitor centre.
