By Bernie Bell.

I’ve written about Restart Orkney a few times.  It’s A GOOD THING

The premises next door, which had been Orkney PC, was standing empty, so the decision was made to make something a bit special in that space.

The ‘old‘ Restart is still very much in operation, selling larger items of furniture, books, C.D.’S etc.  The ‘new’ premises next door ‘Restart Rummage’

the outside premises of Restart

houses smaller items, glass ware, china, cooking utensils, ornaments and art-works,

A room has been set aside for antiques and collectables – some of which are really exceptional. When we were there, there was a tooth with scrimshaw carving on it, for £2

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s gone by now!

I’ve got a bit ahead of myself, so will now present some of the items from the antiques and collectables room….

A doll’s pram – about my vintage

Sheet music in a wicker basket

A slightly strange juxtaposition of Marilyn Monro and a washboard!

a washboard and behind it a large picture of Marilyn Munro

A bit of local interest – P.C. Flett’s jam

container for jam

Sewing machines

And music machines

More teapots – the place is a gold-mind for anyone who collects teapots!

There were two Charles & Diana Wedding memorabilia pieces which are poignant in light of what happened

Moving forward in time, there’s also a room with electrical goods

shelves of electrical appliances

And…..an old petrol can, in good condition for £5 – I’ve seen them go on Antiques Road Trip for much more than that!

All I can say is…go and have a look for yourself. Look around, look up and look down because there’s something of interest everywhere!
