The Two Families of Jack Singh by Dr Sunil Angris is an Indian saga set in Orkney.

When a father’s double life is discovered after his death, huge emotions are experienced by his family. Peace and understanding are the watch words for the deceived wife who contemplates the enormous burden and strain keeping his secret life hidden must have been. But how can the children deal with this?

Author Dr Sunil Angris, the son of first generation Hindu immigrants to Britain, and member of the Stromness Writers’ Group explains:

“The tale combines the issues that arise from the merging of different cultures across generations, resulting in a potent clash of emotions from anger and division through to hope and optimism.”

Sunil was raised in the industrial Black Country area of the West Midlands. He studied medicine at Nottingham University, spent most of his professional career as a GP in The Peak District. He moved to Orkney in 2019 after visiting and falling in love with the islands some twenty years before.

Describing this his first novel he said :

“The storyline draws from the author’s experiences as the son of immigrants from India, facing up to racial tensions in his youth and in supporting patients as a GP who had faced similar familial upheavals.”
