Born 100 years ago on Saturday the 20th June, Mattie Nelson celebrated her 100th birthday at the Dashing Deer Kitchen and Bar. 

Mattie was born into the coal mining community of Shotts and lived most of her life in Wishaw before moving to Deerness in 2018 where, we believe, she still holds the title of oldest resident.

As well as the normal delicious lunch menu the Dashing Deer made a special cake for Mattie although I suspect fire regulations limited the number of candles.
