I thought, and wrote, the following

Imagine that you’re a Russian woman.  A mother, wife or girlfriend.  Your son, husband or boyfriend is a soldier who goes to ’fight’ in The Ukraine.

When he comes home, you sit across the table from him and you think….’Did he?’

A soldier’s job is understood to involve maiming and killing but in today’s world of war, other approaches to subjugation are becoming more common, normalized, even……in a very strange twist on the use of the word, accepted.

Now, the question isn’t just did he maim or kill, it’s also….’Did he?’
