“Over the last ten years, the St Magnus Way has grown into a deeply meaningful trail for locals and visitors alike. – St Magnus Way Board.

St Magnus Way is hosting an informal public drop-in for local landowners, occupiers and route users to re-engage with the trustees and preview an impact survey designed by UHI Archaeology Institute to assess the pilgrimage route’s footprint across Orkney and beyond.

The St Magnus Way is a 55-mile pilgrimage route through mainland Orkney, following the life and story of St Magnus.

Opened in 2016, the trail encourages reflection, historical exploration, and appreciation of Orkney’s landscape, sustained through close collaboration with local communities, parishes, and landowners.

Since the 55-mile pilgrimage route opened a decade ago, land tenures and occupiers along the trail have changed. This gathering offers a relaxed, open space for both long-standing and new land and home occupiers, as well as regular trail users, to connect with the St Magnus Way organisation.

Attendees are encouraged to drop by, enjoy a cuppa, and have an informal chat with trustees who will be on hand to answer questions.

In addition to re-establishing local connections, the trust will launch a brand-new survey created by the UHI Archaeology Institute. The initiative aims to formally measure the economic, social, and spiritual impact of the St Magnus Way both within the Orkney community and among visitors travelling from further afield.
