The latest ,7th July 2023, water scarcity report published by SEPA shows ‘light relief for parts of Scotland’s water environment, with rain over the past week leading to some recovery in river and groundwater levels.
Eight of the twelve calendar months now have an average temperature record set since 2006 in a series which dates back to 1884.
Every part of Scotland has now reached some level of scarcity. SEPA forecasts that 28 out of 83 areas (a third) will be at Significant water scarcity level by 30th June 2023 if there is no recovery in river levels.
Most of the Scotland is now at Alert – except for seven areas in early warning – Orkney, Ythan, Don, Kintyre, Firth of Clyde, Loch Fyne and the River Add. Loch Maree in the Highlands reaches significant risk – Ness and Esk areas increase to moderate risk .
