Your Vote Counts

The local electoral office has sent out letters to everyone on the register. Even if the details on them are correct and there have been no changes you are being asked to confirm the information.

Electoral Registration Officer for Orkney and Shetland Dennis Stevenson said:

“Although you may know that your details are on the register, as you have recently voted, we would ask you to respond and provide the information requested on the form as soon as possible.”

“All responses can now be made online and we would encourage householders, where possible, to use this method rather than returning the form in the post. However, if you prefer, you can return the paper copy to us instead.”

In the recent June General Election the turnout for the Northern Isles was just over 68% of those registered to vote which was an improvement on the turnout for the local elections also held this year when less than half the electorate voted.
