Apply Now For LEADER Funding

orkney-flagLocal organisations and farmers wanting to diversify are being urged to apply now for LEADER funding as the deadline for applications nears.

Three projects have been awarded ‘in principle’ funds this year so far. The three projects to receive funding are: a North Ronaldsay Development Manager and upgrading of the Deerness and Sandwick community halls.

Round 8 closes on 21 February 2018. Funded by the European Union and Scottish Government, it is  delivered in Scotland by 21 Local Action Groups implementing Local Development Strategies for their area. As the UK prepares to leave the EU this source of funding will end.

Seven funding rounds to date have already committed over £1.18million (£1,181,382) to 21 local projects with a total value of over £2.5million

Anyone interested should contact the Orkney LEADER team based at the Council offices in Kirkwall as soon as possible on 01856873535 extension 2811.

LEADER grants are decided by a local panel, for projects that are led by the local community or are in the local community’s interest and provide economic and community development within Orkney.

Active farmers may also apply for farm diversification funds to assist with the viability of their farm business.
