Trenabies

Trenabies is a well established cafe in Albert Street, in the centre of Kirkwall. It serves breakfast up to 11.30am and a range of hot and cold meals, cakes, drinks etc.

It is usually busy but there are additional seats upstairs. The seating is quite close together with a mixture of tables, booths and sofas. Due to the narrowness of the doorway and the space inside it would be difficult for a  wheelchair user to have the room to manoeuvre in.

Menus, salt and pepper are on the table. It is table service but there is a busy trade in take away coffees etc which are ordered at the counter.

Although busy at the time the service was prompt, efficient and polite. The meal was cooked to order with the drinks being served while we waited – which was not too long.

The chips were light and fluffy inside and crisp on the outside. Both meals were very good. The coffee, which is Fair Trade, was excellent.

There was a delicious range of cakes on show but we were full up as the portions are of a good size.

This is a good place for breakfast if you are coming in on an early boat. Check their Facebook page as sometimes they stay open later .
