On Saturday 27th April there will be a Research Day in the Archive Room, Orkney Library and Archive in Kirkwall from 10 am – 4 pm, where you can join Dr Sarah Jane Gibbon for a day of researching the history and archaeology of the Hall of Clestrain and surrounding area, exploring maps, documents and census records.

The Hall of Clestrain was the home of Arctic explorer Dr. John Rae, https://theorkneynews.scot/2017/07/26/john-rae-society-open-day-at-clestrain-house/  whose footsteps are being retraced by the ‘Arctic Return’ team, as I write!   https://arcticreturn.com/
