On June 21st 1919 The German High Seas Fleet was scuttled whilst at anchor in Scapa Flow, Orkney.
As part of #Scapa100 there is an excellent exhibition on at The Orkney Museum, Tankerness House, Kirkwall. 1919 – The Scuttling of the German Fleet #Scapa100
The exhibition also tells of the killing of German sailors which took place on that day in June 1919.
Their graves can be found in the Lyness Naval Cemetery, Hoy and cared for by the Commonwealth Graves Commission. Due to discrepancies on some of the gravestones, revealed by recent research, those marker stones have been corrected and replaced.
A Commemoration service will take place on Friday 21st of June 2019, 1pm at Lyness Naval Cemetery, Hoy.
