Poetry Corner: God Bless The Working Stiff

By Richard Wallace

There is a group of men and women

who work hard every day;

on farms, in stores and lumber yards,

they work hard for their pay.

*****

They mow your lawns and pick your apples,

do your roofing in the heat,

while others paint your houses

and still more pave your street.

*****

Cement men pour your basements,

mechanics fix your cars,

while others make their living

in pizza joints and bars.

*****

These folks are all around us

I’m suggesting to you, this,

we need these folks around us,

God bless the working stiff.
