Space, Place & Grace : Between Islands

Last autumn. Professor Frank Rennie travelled from Lewis to Kirkwall in order to deliver his lecture entitled Space, Place and Grace which we reported on in The Orkney News

This is a Between Islands Project and in return Professor Donna Heddle travelled from Orkney to Stornoway to give her presentation on Norse place names.

That was then and this is now (as they say) and in this Covid world that is not possible (not advisable anyway).

Professor Rennie’s lecture is now on YouTube for The Between Islands Project.

An associated book entitled The Changing Outer Hebrides, Galson and the Meaning of Place will  be published by Acair next month and is planned to feature in Faclan, An Lanntairs (online) book festival later in the year.

In addition Between Islands are in the process of producing a publication which contains chapters written by UHI staff from throughout the islands including Professor Rennie, Professor Heddle, Dr Andrew Jennings, and Dr Emily Gal. Also contributing are museum exhibition curators.
