To mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall was lit up in orange.
This year’s theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”. Like in previous years, this year’s International Day will mark the launch of 16 days of activism that will conclude on 10 December 2020, which is International Human Rights Day.
Worldwide the statistics are horrendous with 1 in 3 women and girls experiencing physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, most frequently by an intimate partner.
Since the public health measures introduced to limit the spread of Covid19 incidents of domestic violence have increased in many countries.
