The Hall of Clestrain: a brief history – by Fiona Gould

By Bernie Bell

As part of the John Rae Challenge  https://www.johnraesociety.com/johnraechallenge/, Fiona Gould –  Membership Secretary and Trustee of the John Rae Society – wrote a booklet about the history of the Hall of Clestrain from earliest known times to the present day, with an impressive amount of detail of the many family histories involved in this one building.

This booklet is now available, and can be can be purchased online For £6.00 or as a paper copy for £9.00. It is just over 5000 words in length.

To order a copy please go to the JRS web page www.johnraesociety.com/shop.

The idea is that the text will be a ‘living document’ –  the author hopes that people will suggest changes and/or additions and that, as new information about the Hall is discovered, the booklet can be updated.

Re. The John Rae Challenge, generally – I’m waiting for someone to take up the Challenge, by making a cake in the shape of the Hall!  Orrrrrr – a Clestrain made of Lego – that might keep some children occupied over Christmas, while learning a bit to history, too – Ripping Yarns of Arctic Explorers!  Speaking of which…… https://www.johnraesociety.com/product-category/books/

Something for everyone!
