PS
I emailed the RSPB and asked if they had any info on herons washing frogs – and received this answer……
“This behaviour is often observed in a range of species so is perfectly normal! Birds are very clean and will routinely wash their food before eating. We’ve had people describe blackbirds washing worms and magpies soaking bread, so it is not surprising that Kraak (excellent name for a heron by the way) also washes his frogs before eating.”
