SEPA Flood Warning for Orkney

 A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Orkney.

A combination of spring tides, a surge, wind and waves could cause coastal flooding impacts around Orkney on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Potential impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, and isolated flooding of properties. The risk will be greatest around the times of high tide, which at Kirkwall occurs around 21:30 on Saturday, and 09:30 and 22:15 on Sunday.

Longhope and Hoy

A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Longhope and Hoy.

A combination of high spring tides and storm surge means that there is a risk that low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as at other low lying roads including at North Ness, the Wyng and at Kirk Hope. The highest risk will be a few hours either side of high tide and the next high tides are at 20:00 (GMT) Saturday 1st and 08:30 (GMT) Sunday 2nd with the highest levels forecast for the Sunday morning high tide.

Sanday


A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Sanday.

A combination of high spring tides, storm surge and strong southwesterly winds means that there is a risk of coastal flooding in Sanday. Any low lying coastal roads and properties across the island exposed to the prevailing wind will be subject to significant wave spray impacts. East and West winds impact the road between Newbiggings and Burness at Quivals farm, southerly winds and waves impact Kettletoft, Silverhall and Cata sands. The highest risk will be a few hours either side of high tide and the next high tides are at 21:45 (GMT) on Saturday 1st and 10:00 (GMT) on Sunday 2nd.
