On 27th of November 1896 Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss is performed in Frankfurt for the first time.

This tone poem was inspired by  Friedrich Nietzsche‘s philosophical 1883–1885 novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

In more recent times people have become more familiar with it due to its use in the film 2001 A Space Odyssey.
