The National Records of Scotland weekly report on Deaths involving Covid published on 8th of December 2022 is as follows:
- As of 4th December 2022, there have been a total of 16,173 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 48 there were 41 deaths involving COVID-19 (one more than the previous week).
- The provisional total number of all deaths registered in Scotland in week 48 of 2022 (28th November to 4th December) was 1,221 (47 or 4% above the 5-year average).

In more detail – there were a total of 1,221 deaths due to all causes. This was an excess of 47 deaths over the 5 year average. There were 41 deaths involving Covid. Covid was the underlying cause in 25 of them.
There were 9 deaths registered in Orkney due to all causes, 1 of those deaths involved Covid.

Age 45 – 64, 2 Deaths, Female
Age 65 – 74, 8 Deaths, 4 Female, 4 Male
Age 75 – 84, 17 Deaths, 5 Female, 12 Male
Age 85+ , 14 Deaths, 7 Female, 7 Male
There were 8 deaths in Care Homes, 3 at Home/Non Institutional Setting and 30 deaths in Hospital.
