The weekly update from National Records of Scotland of deaths involving Covid published on 22nd of December 2022 is as follows:
- As of 18th December 2022, there have been a total of 16,252 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 50 there were 38 deaths involving COVID-19 (three fewer than the previous week).
- The provisional total number of all deaths registered in Scotland in week 50 of 2022 (12th to 18th December) was 1,302 (15 or 1% above the 5-year average).

In more detail:
Age 15 – 44: 1 Death, Female
Age 45 – 64: 1 Death, Female
Age 65 – 74: 11 Deaths, 4 Female, 7 Male
Age 75 – 84: 13 Deaths, 5 Female, 8 Male
Age 85+: 12 Deaths, 9 Female, 3 Male
There were 2 deaths in Care Homes, 3 at Home/ Non Institutional Setting and 33 deaths in Hospital.
There were 1,302 deaths due to all causes, 15 more than the 5 year average. In Orkney there were 6 deaths registered, one of which involved Covid.
Of the 38 Deaths where Covid was a factor, Covid was the underlying cause in 21 of them.
There were 12 deaths involving Influenza which was the underlying cause in 10 of them.
