Bright spells and snow showers, some heavy over Orkney.

Today 31st December:
Shetland will have a bright day with sunny intervals and a few scattered snow showers, the fresh northwesterly winds continuing to ease. Some more prolonged sleet or snow showers for Orkney bringing some accumulations but brightening later. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
Tonight:
Any light snow showers dying out then dry with some long clear spells and light winds allowing a widespread frost to develop. Minimum temperature -3 °C.
Sunday 1st January:
Shetland will stay generally dry with some bright or sunny spells and perhaps a light wintry shower. Orkney dry for much of day but some rain possible later. Maximum temperature 4 °C.
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Sunny intervals and a few rain showers on Monday and Tuesday, quite windy. Wednesday starting wet and windy then brighter with sunshine and showers.
