A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain across Orkney but becoming drier and brighter by the afternoon with freshening northwesterly winds. Mainly cloudy with showery rain and light winds for Shetland. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy at first across Shetland with outbreaks of rain. Otherwise, mainly dry with clear spells and the odd passing shower. Occasionally fresh northwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Thursday 5th January:

A mostly dry and bright day with light winds and showers dying out. Heavy rain will spread northeast in the evening with strong southeasterly winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Blustery showers on Friday then mild with outbreaks of rain on Saturday. Further heavy and blustery showers on Sunday. Strong winds at times.
