The Kirkwall RNLI Lifeboat was tasked on the 25 May by Shetland Coastguard to carry out a medivac of a passenger from a cruise ship.
The lifeboat was alerted at 10pm and departed from Kirkwall Harbour at 10:15pm. The lifeboat met up with the cruise ship in Deer Sound where the medivac transfer was completed. The lifeboat then returned to Kirkwall Harbour, where the casualty was taken to hospital by a waiting ambulance.
The lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service at 23:45.
This was the third launch of the all-weather lifeboat ‘Margaret Foster’ in a week, having assisted a casualty at a vessel near Stronsay on Sunday May 21 and completed the tow of a casualty vessel to Shapinsay on Monday 22 May.
