A cold wind and occasional rainfall did not dampen the spirits of islanders and visitors in supporting the Kirkwall RNLI open day at their lifeboat shed on Saturday 27th May.

We have received a report of a major incident involving the Pentalina ferry with lifeboats in attendance at St Margaret’s Hope.
“The possibility of death was with them all the time. They accepted without question that this life was a hazard. They knew every time the boat was launched they were in danger. They were ready to answer the call from those in peril on the sea.” Rev Cant
Full time mechanic Andrew Gibson and volunteer mechanic John Scott of Kirkwall RNLI have both successfully completed their training.
“Stronsay has twice had the privilege of being a Lifeboat Station for the North Isles of Orkney and played host to lifeboats of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.”
