All this month organisations and businesses are opening their doors for free public access at the weekend. Saturday 9th and 10th is Orkney’s weekend.

The Orkney News has two online free events which you can visit wherever you live and both commence at 3pm.

On Saturday 9th of September on The Orkney News YouTube channel, Fiona Grahame will present a short film about the Strawplaiting industry of 19th century Orkney. This film will mostly feature what happened in the town of Stromness. It will be followed by a short Q & A on Zoom which you can register for by emailing: fiona@theorkneynews.scot.

On Sunday 10th of September, Helen and Kenny Armet will be presenting a new cookery film on The Orkney News YouTube channel. Helen’s recipes are very popular being viewed worldwide. This film will feature a traditional recipe from Orkney using Orkney beremeal.
