Flood Alert for Orkney & Flood Warning Issued for Churchill Barriers


FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Orkney.

This alert is for coastal flooding. Due to a combination of high tides, large surge, and strong winds there is a risk of flooding from waves and spray overtopping to low lying areas of the coast, particularly those exposed to the West and South-West, from Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. This FLOOD ALERT is now in force until further notice and was sent by phone and SMS free of charge to registered customers of our Floodline direct warning service. FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Churchill Barriers.

The prevailing weather forecast, along with high tides and large waves means that flooding from the sea is expected. Southeast winds also means that a combination of wave overtopping, spray and debris may result in the closure of the Churchill Barriers.

The highest risk is either side of the high tides, which are today 21st at 18:45 GMT.
