Public Health Scotland’s latest publication, 5th September, on viral respiratory diseases (including Covid), reports that in the most recent week, there were 219 emergency hospital admissions with a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of influenza, RSV, or COVID-19. This was a decrease compared to previous weeks (197 in week 34, 201 in week 33, and 220 in week 32). The highest proportion among the admissions were due to COVID 19, although admissions because of COVID-19 have also decreased during the reporting period, from 197 in week 32, to 186 in week 35.

In the week ending 1st September there were 186 Acute Covid-19 admissions to hospitals in Scotland. Up from 177 the previous week.

The number of inpatients in Hospital also increased for that same period to 194 from 184 the previous week.

National Records of Scotland, 5th September publication reports that:

The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 35 of 2024 (26th August to 1st September) was 1,111. This is 85 or 7.1% lower than the expected number of deaths in week 35. There were 13 deaths that mentioned COVID-19.

In the month of August 79 deaths were recorded where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate. Covid was the main cause in 57 of the deaths. From 1st July to 29th July 210 deaths were recorded where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate.

In the week ending 26th of August, 1 Covid death was registered in Orkney.

During August there were 8 Covid related deaths in Care Homes, 6 at Home/Non Institutional Setting, and 65 in Hospital.

Since the start of the Covid pandemic in Scotland there have been 19,220 deaths involving Covid. Covid was the main cause in 15,083.

  1. Thanks for continuing to report on the situation re. Covid – who else does? Rhetorical question.

    1. Luckily, some still do… and also in other countries. But to get any idea of what exactly is going on and to gauge the risks of the virus’ future trajectory and/or likelihood and extent of spillovers (incl. reverse) one must really invest time and effort.
