A couple on holiday in Orkney want to express their thanks to Holm’s John Tait who came to their assistance when the tyre of their vehicle had a nail in it.

The couple, Lindy Gibbon and Andrew Harrison decided to put some air into their tyres as a warning light was flashing.

Lindy says:

“We stopped off at the Londis filling station to use the air pump. Andrew noticed a nail embedded in the tyre which he removed and instantly the tyre deflated completely.

“We were 25 minutes from our rented accommodation, it was 17.45 on a Saturday night! I looked online, all the local garages were closed. What to do? We couldn’t miss our ferry, we couldn’t drive our hire car, there was no recovery available. Just then I noticed a gentleman get into his van. I approached him, asked if he was local and explained about the flat . Did he know anyone who may be able to help?”

“You’re not going to believe this” he said, “ but I have a garage repair shop!”

Then the kindly soul came and looked at the tyre, said he’d need to nip home to get some kit and he’d be back. 40 minutes later he’d fixed the tyre, pumped it back up, checked it was sound and tried to go without accepting any money!

He absolutely made our day. A truly good man who was kindness personified. His name is John Tait and he runs John Tait Services . Service such as this deserves to be recognised. Our flat tyre could have made life very difficult for us, instead we were gifted the help of a true gentleman. What were the chances? Amazing bit of serendipity!”
