By Lydia Harris, Westray Writers.

Peter Mackay/Padraig Macaoidh Makar of Scotland and poet Miriam Gamble are coming to Westray on 30th August 2026.

Westray Writers asked Peter if he might consider coming after he took part in a reading with North Uist Writers and Westray Writers arranged by SHIPS, the Scottish Highlands and Islands Poetry Society. To our delight he agreed.

He and Miriam will be with us for a whole day. They will be part of the morning service at the Old Kirk and in the early evening will give a public reading also in the Old Kirk.

Peter will also lead a workshop for Westray Writers and Y(oung) Writers.

We are very much looking forward to the visit and thank the Westray development Trust for making it possible and Rev, Iain MacDonald for offering the use of the kirk and for making the visit part the morning service.
