The recycling centre at St Margaret’s Hope will re-open on Tuesday 24 November.

2.4 million tonnes of household waste was generated in Scotland in 2019, a slight increase from 2018.
Researchers at RMIT University, Australia, have been working on developing bricks that use recycled cigarette butts in their composition.
“With over 2 million tonnes of household waste generated in 2018 and a target to recycle 70% of that by 2025, our projected incineration capacity just doesn’t add up.” FOE
Half the population of the linked islands of Burray and South Ronaldsay have signed a petition ‘to insist on the re-opening of the recycling centre in St. Margaret’s Hope’.

From Tuesday 4 August both Hatston and Garson Household Waste Recycling Centres will again be able to accept waste electrical and electronic equipment.
