By Nick Morrison
There is a choice of starters, mains and deserts.
To start with we had a trio of Venison ham, a crab doughnut , and Grimbister cheese fried in breadcrumbs.
The main was well cooked moist turkey, oatmeal stuffing, sausage-meat and apricot stuffing, pigs in blankets, with a range of vegetables and sauces.
Christmas pud desert came with a spiced orange creme anglaise sauce topped with a strawberry. The alternative was a trio of chocolate delice, pear cake and pineapple, coconut and rum ice cream.
The kitchen staff paraded a flaming Christmas pud through the restaurant in similar fashion to “the piping in of the haggis” before serving the desert.
The whole meal was to a very high standard of cooking, presentation and service.
There are 3 different types of student in the kitchen now . This is the first year that Lifestyles (St Colms ) students are being trained in the kitchens. They are currently doing all the myriad of tasks that take place in a large kitchen short of actual cooking.
The students are being trained to a very high standard. To assist that end customers are asked to give feedback on a range of activities an a printed form supplied by the College on each table.
