“Today’s industrial action by Unite’s offshore members should serve as a reminder that we will not be intimated “

unite the unionOffshore workers, members of the Unite Trade Union started the first in a series of stoppages on on the Total Alwyn, Dunbar and Elgin platforms today, 11th of March

The action by those working for Aker and Petrofac started at 7 am this morning. It will last 24 hours.

Future dates for the stoppages are:

  • 19th March 2019
  • 27th March 2019
  • 2nd April 2019
  • 12th April 2019

John Boland, Unite regional industrial officer, said:

“The actions by Aker and Petrofac, at the behest of Total, have been shameful through the issuing of redundancy notices and trying to force through changes to our members’ rotas from 2:3 to the hated 3:3 or 3:4.

“Today’s industrial action by Unite’s offshore members should serve as a reminder that we will not be intimated and we will not shirk from defending our members’ interests.

“There was an overwhelming mandate for this action by the membership which should have brought Aker and Petrofac back to the negotiating table. This is something they have refused to do so far, and Unite will escalate our industrial action over the coming weeks causing widespread disruption until both Aker and Petrofac see sense.”
