Great recipe from Helen, thank you so much. The rock cakes I made today using your recipe took me back years to my Grans kitchen. They tasted great, mibbees not as good as the ones she made for us but I’m an amateur Great recipe Thank you
Ach nobody can beat a Granny’s baking, (not that mine ever did), perhaps your Gran used orange peel instead of or as well as mixed spiced. I just experimented after a request to bake them and these went down well in the household. Glad you enjoyed them, makes it all the worth while. H
What is ” mixed spice”
Hi Julie, Mixed Spice is a traditional combination of spices usually associated with recipes such as Christmas Cake in Britain. It is made up of warm spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger and coriander, however an easy ‘All Spice’ combination would be cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves ground together which is what I use if I don’t have Mixed Spice to hand. Depending where you are it is similar to pumpkin spice blend too. I hope this helps but if you need any more info please get in touch.
