Man look at that title – That Time I Reincarnated As A Slime and Devil Is A Part Timer have nothing on that… even more annoying I can’t abbreviate it to just Slime as that’s already being used in my head… oh this is going to be so much easier when I get to So I’m A Spider So What. That one I can just call it Spider.
The show of a very long name (that in itself about half as long as the title) is. Well, it’s another Isekai, though honestly that only maters for the first 10 minutes (I’ll explain later). The show explains the reincarnation bit right away as we meet the soul of Azusa Aizawa talking to some god like being, explaining she died of being overworked (a real problem in Japan) and is reincarnated as an immortal witch who decides to live a slow easy life compared to her hectic work obsessed one. Finding out she can make money by killing about 25 slimes a day she does just that… for 300 years.

At which point any plot relevance to being someone from another world is basically lost as the main means of being introduced to the world by others is rendered mute as she’s older than everyone in the village near her. She also finds she by accident maxed out her level since 25 slimes a day, for 300 years and finding out she had a ability that doubled XP builds up. While she begs this info to be kept secret in risk of ruining her calm slow life the local gossip was behind the bushes and tells everyone about the incredibly powerful witch of the highlands.
This results in early on people showing up to test their skill including a red dragon named Laika who afterword accidently smashes Azusa’s house. Naturally pissed Azusa demands Laika pay for the damages returning the next day in her cute red sort of maid dress liked human form. Rebuilding the house larger and with Azusa’s blessing moving in. The next episode introduces Azusa’s slime spirit daughters (made from the souls of the slain slimes) and the next few episodes keep doing that, introducing more of the core cast.
The show is very laid back. Since Azusa is the most OP being on the planet there’s nothing that’s really a threat to her so it’s more a show of her and her new family living a life. I’m very fond of this kind of show of late for as the world burns seeing a nice calm fun wee show is very much something that puts a smile on my face. Seeing non conventional families having fun but sometimes silly times, it’s just so wholesome… well except for the demon king’s big sister obsession, I could put up with that but my friend partially dropped the series instead only watching episodes where she didn’t feature.
Both the dub and sub are on Crunchyroll and I watched them both. The voice acting was solid and none of them had a “well I never envisioned them to sound like that” moment. The only problem was when I got to the episode with the musical numbers and none of them had been dubbed… and they didn’t import the subtitles. Maybe they fixed that later but I had to drop watching that one.
If you are having a stressful time, I recommend watching it as it is extremely chill and watch as Azusa’s family grows.
