First things first. We got hosed. Battered. Completely horsed. Ukraine were absolutely brilliant. Totally deserved it.
Golfers talk about “core confidence”. In other words, you don’t let a setback derail you from the main prize. Scotland? We’re good. We’ve a super group of players. We’ll get there. And, to be honest, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to be a wee bit thrilled to see those Ukrainian players celebrating in front of their ain folk, thousands of miles from home, with everything that is going on. Apologies for this – I’ve used this before – but Jurgen Klopp calls football the most important of the least important things. Although, honestly, it didn’t feel unimportant tonight. And I’m not sure is. In fact, it isn’t.
While we miss out on Qatar – and good of us to take the moral high ground by failing to qualify btw – we’ve an infinitely more important play-off in 2023.
And that’s one we absolutely cannot afford to lose.
Keep well people.
I’ll meet you further on up the road.
