Kirkwall RNLI Open Day Success

The Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat welcoming visitors on board

A cold wind and occasional rainfall did not dampen the spirits of islanders and visitors in supporting the Kirkwall RNLI open day at their lifeboat shed on Saturday 27th May.

The RNLI is completely independent of government and relies totally on funding from the public to pay for all its organisational needs – including the training of its volunteers.

The Open Day was not only important as a fundraiser but in raising awareness of the invaluable work the RNLI do .

There were three cruise liners in and many of the visitors dropped by too at the event.

Kirkwall City Pipe Band, excellently turned out, played for over thirty minutes in poor weather conditions , sounding superb, and Stormy Stan kept the younger members of the public entertained.
